Aotearoad has sustainability at the heart of everything we do.  We introduced a 5c donation for each tube created.  This goes towards the preservation of the very species that plastic is harming.  This initiative started in August 2020 during lockdown, whilst many charities struggled to maintain donors.

Aotearoad decided to put money into New Zealand's oldest not for profit charitable conservation trust established in 1967, The Otago Peninsula Trust which runs The Royal Albatross Centre and Blue Penguins Pukekura in Dunedin.

Both these birds are impacted heavily by ocean plastic, mistaking floating pens, lighters and cosmetic packaging for food, this is happening increasingly on a daily basis.  By 2050, nearly every species of seabird will be accidentally eating plastic debris — and that includes our blue penguins & Royal Albatross.

These breeding centres will need more and more help until we curb the amount of plastics entering the environment.
